Medical Laboratory Technologists are allied health Professionals works in the Medical Laboratory.
They are trained to develop and perform the laboratory diagnostic tests with utmost care and accuracy. They work closely associated with other Health care team. Medical Laboratory Technologists work in Medical Laboratories attached to Hospitals, Clinics, Independent Reference laboratories, Research laboratories and non-clinical industrial labs. They perform a wide range of laboratory tests – from simple to complex lab tests for the laboratory diagnosis of the diseases. The Laboratory diagnostic reports that a medical laboratory technologist gives to the health care team influences the medical treatment a patient receive.
Activities of a Medical Lab Technologist
A Medical Laboratory Technologists role is to provide accurate laboratory results in a timely manner. Medical laboratory Technologists work in all areas of the Medical Laboratory, including Hematology, Clinical Biochemistry, Clinical Microbiology & Immunology, Blood Transfusion centers and Molecular Biology.
Medical laboratory technologists collect or receive the patient’s specimens in the medical laboratory, analyze the specimens and report results. They are also responsible for confirming the accuracy of the laboratory reports, and reporting laboratory findings to other health care team. Medical laboratory technologists operate complex laboratory analyzers, equipment, computers and precision instruments to perform diagnostic lab tests.
